DuPont Vietnam Builds Sustainability and Green Community

The need for truly sustainable options for 21st century life remains one of the most critical challenges facing the global community including Vietnam. As a science company, DuPont has the experience and expertise to put our science to work in ways that can design in - at the early stages of product development - attributes that can deliver solutions that help protect or enhance human health, safety and the environment.  We believe this is a direct route to a successful, profitable business that adds value to our customers, their customers, consumers, and the planet.

Vietnam is now facing the challenge on its efforts on how to address environmental issues in parallel with economic growth and social advancement to ensure sustainable development. As a member of Vietnam business community, DuPont Vietnam sees the opportunity to co-operate to overcome this country’s challenge.
Sustainability Forums

Since 2009 DuPont Vietnam has organized two successful Sustainability Forums in Ho Chi Minh City and in Hanoi. They were the forums where DuPont shared the Sustainability Model as the best business practices for the country. Delegates were from both public and private sectors helping propose potential solutions and collaboration to create sustainability of Vietnam.

A wide variety of subjects were discussed ranging from applications of science and technology researches on sustainability, development of clean products, reduction of greenhouse effects, environmentally-friendly waste management, to the role of social science in responding to climate change.

According to Carl Lukach, President DuPont East Asia, DuPont has been embarking on safety and environment protection for decades, before sustainability became an important subject in today’s business world. We have current products and new technologies under development that can help Vietnam achieve its sustainable development goals.

DuPont has been known as the most successful innovative companies in the world. We are named by Technology Review Magazine among the 50 most innovative companies in 2010. In addition to our science and innovation capabilities, DuPont also has a 208-year of legacy of core values, rooted strongly in safety, health and environmental stewardship, the key ingredients of sustainability. DuPont began the sustainability journey when we made our first statement on environmental responsibilities for more than 70 years ago in 1938. DuPont was one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals in 1989. Since then we have continued to strengthen and broaden our goals, as our vision of sustainability evolved.

As sustainability is integrated into the businesses of DuPont, we are looking at opportunities to collaborate with local business and government bodies. So we are building alliances around the world. That’s how we work best: alongside others, applying our vast range of scientific expertise and knowledge to complex problems.
Green Community

In response to our sustainable goal, DuPont Vietnam recently promoted green awareness and initiatives together with the community in Nam Dinh province, a key agricultural province of northern Vietnam, by planting trees along the main village road to the rice farms and at the local school. The tree planting program aims to build a sustainable community while reducing environmental footprint. The program represents collaboration of DuPont Vietnam, local authority, farmers, teachers, and school students.

Farra Siregar, Managing Director of DuPont Vietnam said, “We initiated the Tree Planting Program here in Nam Dinh as part of our continued commitment to our core values and sustainable growth in Vietnam. The collaboration among community, local authority and DuPont has made the program more meaningful and represents the sustainable efforts of the entire community. We are proud and pleased to contribute to community development in Vietnam. This program also helps to raise a sense of awareness and responsibility among younger generations for voluntary initiatives in protecting their community and environment.”

In the past years, DuPont Vietnam also has planted more than 2,000 trees in other provinces of Mekong Delta - Long An; Tien Giang and Dong Thap. This is part of the efforts and contribution to the communities where DuPont operates. DuPont will continue joining forces with government, and local authorities, in delivering sustainable community programs to the people of Vietnam in the future.
